Colic is a the term commonly used to describe the unexplained and uncontrollable crying in babies from 0-3 months old that often last for more than three hours a day.

Many believe that colic can be derived from allergies, gas in the intestine, and birth trauma.  The exact cause of colic is unknown.

Research from the “Journal of Manipulative and Physiologic Therapeutics” has concluded that “Spinal manipulation is effective in relieving infantile colic”. In a two week study half of infants with colic received chiropractic treatment and the other half received a drug dimethicone. All of the adjusted babies stayed in the study, while only 64% of the dimethicone babies completed the two-week study. During the study, the children being adjusted saw a 67% reduction in crying and the drug therapy group saw only a 38% reduction in crying.

The average number of gentle adjustments given during the two-week study was 3.8. Conclusion from the study shows how Chiropractic Care is effective in treating children suffering with colic.
